A member of France's National Assembly has been hospitalised in intensive care after contracting coronavirus, the lower house of parliament said in a statement on Thursday, as the French president warned the public to prepare for an "inevitable" epidemic, reports FRANCE 24.

A snack bar worker had also contracted the virus and had been confined to home while another worker in the lawmakers' dining hall who was suspected of having caught the virus had been hospitalised, the Assembly said.

It did not name the legislator who had contracted the virus, but added that all lawmakers and personnel had been informed about the situation.

France is inexorably heading towards a coronavirus epidemic, President Emmanuel Macron warned on Thursday as the health ministry reported three more deaths from the disease, bringing the country's toll to seven.

"There is a moment when we all know that ... an epidemic is inevitable," Macron said.
