French prosecutors have recommended that the French subsidiary of Swedish home furnishings chain Ikea, several members of its former management and four French police officers should stand trial for their involvement in a system of espionnage targeting company staff and clients.

In one of the sharpest confrontations in years between France’s powerful executive and its parliament, the Senate announced on Thursday it had referred Macron’s top aide Alexis Kohler, his chief of staff Patrick Strzoda and Lionel Lavergne, the Elysée’s top security official, to prosecutors for withholding information from an investigation into Macron’s former bodyguard Alexandre Benalla.

France re-organises counter-terrorism agencies

French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe on Friday announced a raft of new measures aimed at improving the efficiency of its anti-terrorism apparatus, including the creation of a dedicated counter-terrorism public prosection service and placing the management of investigations in the hands of the country's domestic intelligence agency, the DGSI.
