    French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking in Paris before a visit to several African countries, has said the numbers of French troops stationed in Africa are to be reduced, while cooperation with its allies on military training and supplies of equipment will be increased.

    French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking on Saturday after China called for urgent peace talks to end the war in Ukraine, said he would visit Beijing in early April to further the initiative, but cautioned that a settlement would depend upon the condition that 'the Russian aggression was halted, troops withdrawn and territorial sovereignty of Ukraine and its people was respected'.

    The Lavatory de la Madeleine, which first opened in 1905 close to the Madeleine church in central Paris, and which contains individual cubicles with mirrors and sinks, Art Nouveau stained glass, mosaics, and ceramics, has reopened to the public, with access costing two euros per sitting, after almost eight years of restoration.

    The French government is considering introducing restrictions on water consumption as of March after the country recorded 32 continuous days, beginning on January 21st, without rainfall exceeding an average 1 millimetre, the driest period on mainland France since records began in 1959.

    In an interview with French media, President Emmanuel Macron argued for increased military support for Ukraine to see Russia defeated, but said he did not agree with those who 'want to, above all else, crush Russia', adding that past attempts around the world for regime change have ended in 'total failure'.

  • French utility giant EDF announces record losses for 2022

    EDF has announced yearly losses for 2022 of nearly 18 billion euros and debts of 64.5 billion euros, due in part to exceptional numbers of repairs to its fleet of nuclear reactors and a resulting drop in electricity production, a French government cap on energy prices for consumers, and EDF's legal obligation to sell electricity at a loss to smaller utility firms.

    Rachid M’Barki, an anchor at French rolling TV news channel BFMTV, has been suspended over allegations that multiple stories broadcast on his show included propaganda supplied by an Israeli firm including one that suggested sanctions imposed against Russian oligarchs were damaging the yachting industry in the Mediterranean principality of Monaco.
