    Two Paris binmen who stole a truck from their service depot and attempted to empty the rubbish it was carrying outside the headquarter's of President Emmanuel Macron's political party were arrested in central Paris on Friday by gun-waving police.

    Kurdish-led forces say they have captured close to Raqqa, in Syria, French jihadist Adrien Guihal, also known as Abu Osama al-Faransi, who notably voiced the Islamic State group's claim of responsibility for the July 14th 2016 truck rampage attack in Nice which left 86 people dead and more than 400 others injured.

    Two officers with France's foreign intelligence agency, the DGSE, have been held in detention since December accused of passing secrets to a foreign power, while one of their wives was released on bail, French defence minister Florence Parly has confirmed, while security sources told AFP news agency the agents are suspected of helping China.

    In a joint press conference in St Petersburg ahead of an annual economic forum on Friday, the Russian and French leaders reiterated their support for the Iran nuclear programme limitation deal after the recent US decision to withdraw from it, and that despite US President Donald Trump's decision to pull back from planned talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un negotiations over the latter's proposed denuclearisation of the peninsula should continue.

    French President Emmanuel Macron, on a two-day visit to St Petersburg where he is holding talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, has highlighted his contacts with the leader of the rights' group Memorial, Alexander Cherkasov, and Natalia Solzhenitsyn, the widow of Soviet dissident writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn, whom he called 'the echo of a voice that marked the 20th century and continues to shine in ours'.

  • Uber to set up Paris lab to develop flying taxi project

    US transport company Uber has said it will invest 20 million euros over the next five years in a Paris-based laboratory, in cooperation with the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique engineering school, for the development of sky taxis, which it hopes will be operational by 2023.
