  • Suspended jail sentences for 11 in French teen online abuse case

    A Paris court on Wednesday handed down suspended prison sentences of between four and six months to 11 out of 13 people who stood trial last month for online harassment and death threats against a teenage girl, known publicly only by her first name, Mila, after she posted an anti-Islam rant on her Instagram account.

  • Legal complaint targets authorities over Notre-Dame lead pollution

    A joint formal legal complaint for 'placing the lives of others in danger' has been filed by Paris residents, a trades union and an anti-pollution association over the lack of action to remove significant lead contamination that fell around Notre-Dame cathedral due to the April 2019 blaze which severely damaged the landmark. 

  • France's Champagne producers fizz over Russian 'sparkling wine' law

    Celebrated Champagne producer Moët Hennessy, part of the LVMH luxury group that includes Veuve Clicquot, Ruinart, Mercier, Krug and Dom Pérignon, threatened to suspend exports to Russia after President Vladimir Putin required all non-Russian producers of bubbly wine to mark their products in Russia as 'sparkling wine', but has now backed down.

    The organisers of the Tour de France cycling race have dropped their complaint against a woman accused of causing one of the worst crashes in its history by standing in the path of riders while brandishing a cardboard sign, leading to two competitors having to pull out of the competition and injuries to eight others.
