Nicolas Sarkozy placed under investigation for 'conspiracy' over Libyan funding claims
Appendices
In his statement after news broke on October 16th 2020 of him being placed under formal investigation again in the Libyan funding affair, former president Nicolas Sarkozy said: “I have learnt about me being placed under formal investigation again with the greatest astonishment.
“This is a further step in the long list of injustices committed throughout the affair of the supposed 'Libyan funding' of my 2007 election campaign. After four years of questioning, in the course of which I have answered all the questions put to me without ever being put in difficulty, my innocence is once again tarnished by a decision which does not yield the slightest proof of any unlawful funding. Throughout these 44 hours of questioning I have produced crucial facts in support of the complete demonstration of my integrity. Out of respect for the institution of the judiciary and for the confidentiality of the investigation I cannot alas produce, as I had wanted, the 120 pages of the report of my examination which would enable me to show the reality and the strength of the proof thus provided.
“The French people should know that I am innocent of that which I am accused through the according of unbelievable credibility to the declarations of murders, notorious crooks and false witnesses. I know that the truth will triumph in the end. I endure this new ordeal asking all of those who have confidence in me and continue to have confidence in me to understand that I will end up proving that I am perfectly innocent. I will use all the determination and energy of which I am capable to do so. Injustice will not win.”
