Où Chabrol parle de tout, mais surtout de Hitchcock qu'il adore (il co-écrivit un livre sur le réalisateur, avec Eric Rohmer), du Beau Serge (qu'il regrette), des Cousins (qu'il défend), de Citizen Kane, de Godard ou encore de la bêtise («infiniment plus fascinante que l'intelligence, infiniment plus profonde», car «l'intelligence a des limites tandis que la bêtise n'en a pas»). L'entretien a été re-publié en 2001, dans la petite bibliothèque des Cahiers, dans un ouvrage titré La Nouvelle Vague.
