The Bayeux Tapestry is a step closer to moving to the UK after a deal was struck between the French and British governments, reports Politico.

UK culture secretary Matt Hancock and his French counterpart Françoise Nyssen signed an agreement in Paris on Thursday — a key step toward the tapestry being loaned to a British museum in 2022.

“The Bayeux Tapestry is a world treasure and a symbol of the deep ties between Britain and France,” Hancock said in a statement.

The 70-meter-long tapestry depicting the Norman victory at Hastings in 1066 was made in Britain in the 11th century and has been on display in various locations in France ever since.
