French President François Hollande has said a solution to the Greek crisis could be reached in the coming days, or even hours, as Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras was due to meet with the European Commission in Brussels, reports The Australian

"We are a few days, or I could even say a few hours, away from a resolution," Mr Hollande said at a conference at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The French leader's comments come after he met Monday with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and officials from the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund to craft a final deal for Greece to receive more bailout funds.

Mr Hollande said Greece and its creditors need to find a compromise between European rules and the demands of the Greek government.
