French prisons population hits all-time high

There were 74,513 people incarcerated in France on July 1st, according to justice ministry figures, while the official prison capacity is 60,666.

For the sixth time in almost as many months, France’s prison population has reached an all-time high, and for the first time ever, the number of people behind bars exceeded 74,000 mark on July 1st, according to statistics published by the justice ministry at the end of last month, reports FRANCE 24.
