A one-week strike by pilots at Air France due to start Monday may cost the company between €10 million ($12.9 million) and €15 million a day depending on how many pilots walk out, the airline's chief executive Frederic Gagey said Friday, reports The Wall Street Journal.

"A strike that would force the cancellation of, say, 50% of flights, we would be talking about a cost of between €10 million to €15 million a day," Mr. Gagey said on French radio station Radio Classique.

Air France will have a better idea of the strike's scope on Saturday as pilots have to tell the company if they plan to join the strike at least 48 hours before it starts.

The main pilot union at the French arm of Franco Dutch airline Air France-KLM last month called for a one-week strike starting Monday to protest cost-cutting measures the airline announced this week to recapture market share from budget airlines.
