The model Inès de la Fressange, seen in France as the epitome of chic, has been ordered to demolish a house she had built in rural Provence, amid claims that she sought to "use her fame" to bypass planning permission, reports The New Indian Express.
Ms Fressange, a designer and businesswoman who in the Eighties became the first model to win an exclusive contract as Chanel's muse, had the 1,100 sq ft house constructed earlier this year.
The area is a protected nature reserve and any construction must get past strict planning regulation.
Builders had been putting the finishing touches to what was supposed to be nothing more than a storeroom next to her swimming pool at her villa in the Provencal Alps of Tarascon.
However, locals claimed the building was in fact intended to host guests for parties at the 57-year-old's secluded house surrounded by 22 acres of grounds at La Montagnette.
A hiker was the first to spot the building work. He alerted a local rural protection association, which took legal action.
Last month, a court ordered Ms Fressange to demolish the house immediately and pay a fine of 300 euros "for each day of delay", with the judge saying the illegal construction was likely to cause "serious environmental damage".
Ms Fressange lost her final appeal against the ruling yesterday (Monday). According to the local branch of the Association for the Protection of the Rural Environment, she ignored a municipal order issued in June to cease building work, hoping that her celebrity status might sway the mayor.
The head of the association, Philippe Chansigaud, said: "She granted herself a building permit and as a result totally overstepped the law.
"I'm not saying she pressured [the mayor], but she certainly sought to exploit her celebrity status. Today, she has no option but to demolish this house."
Ms Fressange was voted the quintessential "Parisienne" in 2009 by readers of Madame Figaro and her 2011 book Parisian Chic: A Style Guide was an international best-seller.
