French authorities are warning of a plague of tiger mosquitoes this summer, as the pest is now found in twice as much of France as it was two years ago, reports Sky News.

The tiger mozzie carries several diseases, including dengue fever, the zika virus and the chikungunya virus.

Now, as the weather warms ahead of summer, some 42 regions in the country have been told to take precautions.

The French government's health department has released a statement saying that awareness of the threat from the pests, also known as Aedes albopictus, should be a priority from May to the end of November.

They are particularly worried about infected travellers returning from abroad, allowing domestic mosquitoes to spread the disease on the French mainland.
