The drive-by attack by two people on a motorbike against the French embassy in Athens left a policeman wounded and ocuured just days before an official visit to Greece by outgoing US president Barack Obama.
TheThe Greek coalition government condemned an attack on the French Embassy in Athens on Thursday, labeling the incident an act of terrorism, reports Kathimerini.
The incident occurred when unidentified assailants launched a hand grenade outside the embassy. A policeman on guard outside the building was wounded in the attack which occurred a few days before an official visit by outgoing US President Barack Obama.
“The relations of friendship and solidarity between Greece and France can't be affected in the slightest by such terrorist acts,” government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said in a statement released on Thursday.
SYRIZA, the leftist party which heads the coalition, also condemned the incident. “We firmly condemn the terrorist attack on the French Embassy. We express our solidarity with the special guard who was injured during the attack,” noted the party in a statement released on Thursday.
