Hollande fires environment minister after criticism of 2014 budget plans

FrenchFrench President Francois Hollande dismissed his environment minister Tuesday after she criticized his government's budget plans for 2014, reports The Wall Street Journal.

"It's a bad budget," Delphine Batho told French radio RTL earlier on Tuesday. She went on to say that French people are "disappointed" with the year-old government and a focus on ecology would help demonstrate a will to implement change.

After giving her comments Ms. Batho's was summoned to the residence of Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault. Confirmation that she had been dismissed from her post came later from the office of the President.

"On the proposal of the Prime Minister, the President of the Republic has ended the functions of Madame Delphine Batho," the French presidency said in a short statement.
