Gunmen in northern Cameroon have abducted seven French tourists near the border with Nigeria, French President Francois Hollande has said, reports the BBC.

He says the seven belong to the same family and were seized by a "known terrorist group based in Nigeria".

The seven - who include children - were probably taken across the border after the abduction, Mr Hollande added.

Nigeria's Islamic militant group Boko Haram has staged a series of attacks in northern Nigeria in recent years.
