French jobless total up again

French jobless claims rose by 12,800 in February after a fall in January, casting a cloud over President François Hollande's hopes of an economic recovery prompted by improving consumer and business confidence surveys, report the Financial Times.

The number of people registered as out of work in mainland France rose to 3,494,000 last month, according to figures from the labour ministry published on Wednesday.

The figure increased by 0.4 per cent over one month and 4.6 percent over one year. It had decreased by 19,100 in January.
