French army helicopter pilot dies in Ivory Coast training flight crash

The pilot of a French military helicopter died, and his co-pilot was seriously injured, when their Gazelle crashed while on a training flight near the Ivory Coast city of Abidjan, the army said in a statement on Wednesday.

A French military helicopter crashed in Ivory Coast while on a training mission, killing the pilot and seriously wounding a second crew member, the French army said on Wednesday, reports Vanguard.

The Gazelle helicopter came down about 20 km east of the Ivory Coast commercial capital, Abidjan. “The cause of the accident is still to be determined,” the French army said in a statement.

The army said both helicopter crew were transferred to a French military base at Port Bouet, where the pilot died.
