A French court has ruled that a British ski instructor has the right to teach in France, ending almost a decade of legal fights over European labour laws, reports inews.

Simon Butler, 57, was contesting fines of €42,000 (£37,600) in 2013 and 2014, as well as a suspended prison sentence for teaching at his ski school in the resort of Megève despite lacking French certification.

He was taken to court by local instructors who claimed his licence qualifications from the British Association of Snowsport Instructors were not equivalent to the French equivalents.

The ruling by a Lyon appeals court is expected to mark the end of a long series of legal challenges that have tested the EU’s rules on qualifications.
