French outdoor ad mogul Jean-Claude Decaux dies at 78

Decaux built the firm, the largest specialising in outdoor advertising space and which has more than 1m ad panels in 60 countries, from scratch.

Jean-Claude Decaux, founder of what is today the world’s largest company specialising in outdoor advertising space, has died at the age of 78, reports The Financial Times.

A spokesperson for the French listed company late Friday confirmed the death of its founder but did not give details as to the cause or circumstances of his death.

Mr Decaux, who stepped down as chief executive in 2000 as he handed control to his son, built the company that today has more than 1m outdoor advertising panels in 60 countries from scratch.
