A French opposition senator on Saturday demanded the resignation of interior minister Christophe Castaner, after a police employee killed four colleagues in a case now under investigation by counter-terrorism police, reports Politico.

Guillaume Larrivé, a politician from the center-right Les Républicains party, accused Castaner of failing in his duties and called for him to step down as a “matter of national security.”

"Enough is enough. The interior minister is not capable of assuming its responsibilities. He cannot remain in office. This is a matter of national security," Larrivé tweeted.

Officials have not said there was a terror motive behind the attack in the center of Paris, but the case was on Friday evening transferred to the national anti-terrorist prosecutor for investigation.
