Eurostar chaos in Paris as French customs strike over Brexit planning

Eurostar passengers travelling from Paris to London are facing cancellations and delays of up to two hours due to a strike by French customs workers over what they warn is a lack of preparedness for Brexit, reports The Telegraph.

As the March 29th deadline for Britain’s departure from the European Union approaches, French customs officers are demanding higher pay and better working conditions to face the more onerous border controls this could create.

Airports in the Paris area are also reportedly facing delays on Monday. French customs officers first launched a work-to-rule strike on March 4th.

This Saturday, their action led to delays at Paris’ Gare du Nord, with airports in Paris, Lyon, Chambéry and Grenoble also affected, as well as the port of Calais.

On Monday morning, Eurostar announced on Twitter the cancellation of two Paris to London trains, and said: “We are expecting around 120 minute delays throughout the day.” It is advising people with tickets for Monday and Tuesday to travel only "if necessary" and is offering free ticket exchanges.
