A convicted criminal serving a suspended sentence was charged Monday with 16 armed robberies in Paris, all of which were carried out while he was wearing an electronic monitoring tag on his ankle, reports FRANCE 24.

The daytime robberies – the unnamed man was obliged to observe a court-imposed nighttime curfew – took place across western Paris over a period of three months.

The 27-year-old threatened staff with a handgun (which turned out to be a replica) before making off with cash and drugs on a stolen 600cc scooter.

Paris law enforcement authorities told FRANCE 24 the man was “very well-known” to police and that he had observed his court-imposed nighttime curfew after holding up shops and pharmacies, where he forced staff to hand over cash and drugs.
