Woman and three children killed by train at French level crossing

The victims, who were all in a car, were a woman in her 30s, a ten year-old girl, and a boy and a girl aged around two.

A woman and three children have been killed after their car was hit by a train at a level crossing in France, according to local officials, reports The Independent.

The collision happened on Monday morning near the commune of Avenay-Val-d’Or, in the Marne region of north east France.

Twelve fire engines and 28 firefighters responded to the crash at around 9.45am.

The victims were a woman in her 30s, a ten year-old girl, and two toddlers, a boy and a girl aged around two, French media reported.

Four others were injured and the railway passengers were evacuated to the nearby town hall.
